The city of Issaquah, founded in 1892, is located about 15 miles (24 km) east of Seattle. Interstate 90 bisects the city into several distinct areas and neighborhoods. Take the Front Street exit off I-90 on and go south a few blocks to the “olde” town, the local theater, and the historic railroad depot.
Adjacent to the old downtown stretches the Gilman Village where typical American franchise stores and restaurants coexist with quaint specialty shops and local eateries. Gilman Village was the name of the town before the incorporation of Issaquah in 1892.
Also south of I-90, rise the slopes of the Issaquah Alps. You’ll find Issaquah condos on Cougar Mountain, Squak Mountain, and Tiger Mountain including Talus which is an expansive residential development that was annexed by the city in 1996.
Further south and west lies unincorporated King County. There, Issaquah homes still have Issaquah addresses but land use falls under more restrictive county zoning laws.
If instead you take the Front Street exit off I-90 and go west, you enter the franchise shopping areas of the city. They include Costco which also has its corporate headquarter in Issaquah.
You could turn north and drive up the hill here to get to the Issaquah Highlands. An easier way is to take the next exit off I-90 east after Front Street which was created specifically for this vast development. Issaquah Highlands is a master-planned 2,200 acres community with over 3,000 Issaquah condos and homes. It was annexed by the city in 1996.
Still more Issaquah condos are located west of downtown toward Newcastle and northwest along Lake Sammamish.
